Warm weather is on the way, and with that brings summer dresses, tank tops, and bikinis. This means that the arms will be shown off. If you have excess skin on your arms that causes you to feel self-conscious, then this is a great time to consider getting arm lift surgery. No matter how much you exercise, you may not be able to tighten up the loose skin on your arms. The experienced staff at Howland Plastic Surgery are ready to answer your questions about the benefits of arm lift surgery. We have helped many satisfied patients with arm lift surgery to regain smooth, tight skin.

How Does An Arm Lift Help?

When you lose a significant amount of weight or get older, your skin’s ability to bounce back decreases. This can lead to the appearance of hanging skin or dimples under the arms and surrounding them. When we perform an arm lift, we remove any excess fat, and we tighten and remove the loose skin. The result of an arm lift is beautifully toned arms and skin that you can be proud of.

What Can You Expect From The Procedure?

While this is a surgical procedure, it’s minimally invasive and you will heal fairly quickly. The arm lift takes about three hours in our medical facility. For more comfortable surgery, you will be put under anesthesia. Depending on how much loose skin is apparent, the incisions for this surgery will vary. Generally, Dr. Howland will make an incision inside the under portion of your arm and take out the excess fat. Any loose skin will be removed and tightened at this time as well. Once the arm lift surgery is complete, you can return home wearing a compression sleeve. The compression garment will reduce swelling, stimulate blood circulation, and keep the tissues together. You will need to rest for up to 5 days after the surgery, at which time you can return to work and begin doing light activities. It will take up to a month until you can participate in strenuous activities or heavy lifting.

Why Doesn’t Liposuction Fix The Problem?

Liposuction can be a popular choice for those patients with lots of fat under the arms, but the problem is they still may be left with loose skin once the lipo surgery is completed. While there’s less chance of scarring with liposuction treatment, the result may not be as aesthetically pleasing. Arm lift surgery takes care of removing both the fat and the skin at one time for stunning results. There may be small incision scars under the arms from the procedure, but they will fade over time.

What Are Other Important Considerations?

Our friendly staff will discuss the process with you to determine if you’re a good candidate for arm lift surgery. Since it’s a surgery, there are inherent risks that come with that. Your health is of the utmost importance to Howland Plastic Surgery, and we’ll ensure you have all of the information you need before moving forward.
