You’ve likely heard about the benefits that are associated with liposuction. It’s a common cosmetic procedure that can enhance your look and confidence. Liposuction is beneficial if you’ve tried exercising and dieting to help with pockets of stubborn fat and fail to see results. Even though it’s a common procedure, there are still numerous myths surrounding it that can result in questions. Here are some of the most common myths about liposuction:

Weight Loss Solution

There are many people who think that liposuction is a way to lose weight. Although it can remove fat cells, it’s not a procedure that is used for significant decreases in weight. This is a procedure that you want to have done once you’ve lost all of the weight that you can on your own and simply need a little more help to get toned and to deal with problem areas.

It’s Not For Men

Although more women than men have liposuction performed, it’s not just a procedure for women. There are different needs that are met for both men and women when liposuction is performed with different areas of the body being treated for each gender.

Aging Out

If you’re considering liposuction, then you should be over the age of 18. However, there’s really no age limit for having the procedure performed as you likely want to look your best even after the age of retirement. As long as you’re healthy, Dr. Howland is willing to help you look your best.

No More Dieting And Exercise

It took work to lose weight in order to need liposuction. You’re still going to have to maintain a healthy lifestyle if you want to keep the results that liposuction delivers. If you gain weight after liposuction, then you’ll usually notice that there are no changes in the area where the procedure was performed but in other areas of your body. Keep in mind that liposuction isn’t a solution for cellulite. Sometimes, cellulite could appear worse after liposuction than it did before simply because of the removal of excess fat cells in that area of the body.

Instant Success

A common myth is that you’re going to see instant results and have the body that you dream of having. Although you’ll be able to see a decrease in the amount of fat in the area of your body that’s treated, you likely won’t see a dramatic difference in your overall body structure. If you continue exercising and dieting, then you’ll usually see the results that you desire over time after liposuction. You’re usually going to have to wait for a few weeks after liposuction for any swelling to diminish so that you can see the final results.

It Won’t Work If It’s Not Surgery

There are liposuction procedures that don’t involve making an incision. Heat can be applied to the area to shrink fat cells. Ultrasound therapy can also be used. Keep in mind that the fat removed using these methods is usually less than what you can expect through a traditional liposuction procedure.
