Are you tired of working out and dieting to try and get a flat and toned abdomen and not seeing results? Even though you try to live a healthy life with food and exercise, the body of your dreams may seem out of reach. Factors like getting older, genetics, pregnancy, and losing lots of weight can all lead to excess fat and skin and separated or weak muscles. But you don’t have to struggle anymore with these issues. A tummy tuck can help you finally have the body you’ve always wanted. But a tummy tuck is about more than just the procedure; it’s about recovery as well, and one important aspect of recovery is a compression garment.

Why Tummy Tucks are Necessary

People often think that a tummy tuck is done only for cosmetic reasons, but it’s more than just for looks. It fixes issues like unwanted fat, loose skin, and weak belly muscles. As we age and experience weight loss, pregnancy, and other body changes, the skin can become loose, fat can accumulate, and the abdominal muscles can separate and weaken. Because of these changes, it can be difficult to maintain a flat and toned abdomen, keep a good posture, deal with ventral hernias, and keep back pain at bay. That’s where the tummy tuck comes in.

Dr. Howland’s Unique Approach

At Howland Plastic Surgery, Dr. Howland knows how important it is to tailor cosmetic treatments for each person. He adjusts each tummy surgery to suit your unique needs, ensuring you get the results you’re looking for. Dr. Howland talks with each patient one-on-one to determine their body’s condition and medical history, the results they’re looking for, and what they need for a smooth recovery process.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

A tummy tuck is a routine outpatient surgery. It usually takes about three hours to finish, but this can differ depending on your unique needs. Before the surgery, we will administer general anesthesia to ensure you’re comfortable throughout the procedure.

During surgery, an incision will be made from one hipbone to another across your tummy area. This incision is carefully placed so it can be easily hidden by underwear or a bikini. Then, Dr. Howland will mend your separated abdominal muscles and stop outward bulges. Extra skin will be removed, and the remaining skin will be tightened. Special care is given to make sure the belly button looks natural after surgery. Next, the incisions will be closed with stitches.

Compression Garments After A Tummy Tuck

After your tummy tuck, we will provide a compression garment. This will help support the healing process and reduce swelling and bruising. It’s vital that you wear this for as long as Dr. Howland recommends. Generally, we like patients to wear their compression garment for four to six weeks for the best results.
