What is Skin Tightening?
Skin tightening procedures are done to correct skin laxity non-surgically. There are a number of techniques and devices that can be used to tighten the skin and improve the quality of the skin. These devices can use radiofrequency or ultrasound energy to tighten the skin.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
Individuals who have a mild to moderate amount of loose skin on the face, neck, arms, or abdomen can often benefit from skin tightening treatments. It is also a great alternative for those who do not wish to undergo invasive surgeries such as a facelift. A consultation with Dr. Howland can help to best determine if this treatment can benefit you.
What to Expect
Skin tightening treatments entail the use of a special handpiece which will be placed on the skin. In the case of radiofrequency treatments, the radiofrequency energy will penetrate into the skin, heating tissues and stimulate collagen production. In the case of ultrasound treatments, ultrasound energy will be applied to the skin and stimulate the production of collagen in the skin. Skin tightening treatments work gradually over time, and a series of treatments is often required to see optimal results.
Following nonsurgical skin tightening, patients may see an immediate improvement in the skin, though results will continue to improve over 2-6 months. Discomfort may occur after treatment, which can easily be controlled with pain medication. Minimal recovery time is needed, and most patients can return to their everyday activities right away. Following Dr. Howland’s post-treatment instructions can ensure optimal results.
